Importing Your Database

Importing Your Database

This is continued from Connect to your haystack connector. Now the user can start importing their data after a successful connection. There are two methods we recommend and they are below. One way is having all the tagging and cloning done at the same time. The other way is to do the cloning first, the do the tagging afterwards.

Tag and Clone Template Option

With this option, the user will bring in one type of equipment into the DB Builder. Then name it and tag all the points however you want. This will be considered the template for the rest of the same type of equipment.

In our example below, we'll use a VAV equip:

  1. First the user will create their Site > Floor > and VAV equip in DB Builder

  2. Then in connectors expand Haystack connector and navigate to the VAV equip through Component Space

  3. Drag in the points found under the VAV in the connector over to the VAV in the DB Builder under Available Objects tree

  4. Name the VAV equip in DB Builder how you like (VAV 1)

  5. Rename points if needed and tag them (this will be your perfected template to clone to the rest of the VAVs you have that are similar)

  6. Select Clone icon and use that tool to clone to the rest

  7. Now you repeat this process for the other types of equips like AHUs, FCU, RTUs etc

Clone and Then Tag Option

With this option, the user is basically doing the above option but skipping the tagging of points. The tagging part it skipped so that it can be done afterwards using a different tool.

Using the same example above, do the below:

  1. Do steps 1-4 above

  2. Then you can rename points if needed but don't tag them

  3. Select Clone icon and use that tool to clone to the rest

  4. Now you repeat this process for the other types of equips like AHUs, FCU, RTUs etc

  5. Once done, the user is ready to batch tag points using the Advanced Tag Editor

That should be it. Obviously you might need to add some points later on or do some extra work after the initial import, but this covers the main concept of how to import data.

Another tool worth mentioning is the Clone Points To Equip tool. This tool is useful for when you forgot or couldn't add a point(s) on the initial import and need to add them to all the VAV equips for example. The "Also Copy Points" property it has allows you to clone those points to all the VAV equips and it auto changes the haystackCur and haystackWrite for you as long as they are similar.
